Cardabilities #72

Sketch reveal day over on the Cardabilities blog! Here's sketch #72 and my creation.  Hop on over to the blog and see what the other talented designers came up with, and link up your own creation!

I used papers, brads and felt stickers all from the My Girl collection by My Mind's Eye. I love how girly and sweet all the elements are; any product line that incorporates bright colours usually catches my eye.  You won't see many projects here using soft, pale colours!  Enjoy your Easter weekend everyone.

Ink: (Tuxedo Black) Tsukineko
Paper: (My Girl 6x6 collection) My Mind's Eye

Published!

If you haven't picked up a copy of Card Creations Vol. 11 yet, now is the time- go do it!!

You can find this card of mine in that fabulous magazine, along with another one as well. Paper Crafts has always been one of my favourite publications. Their 'special' editions are always chock full of gorgeous card-making inspiration and their bi-monthly issues are a treat to receive in my mail box...thanks to my hubby for a subscription this Christmas! :)

Happy Thursday to you all!

Ahoy!

My Making Memories Slice machine keeps gathering dust.  It's a nice crafting tool that allows me to die cut all sorts of super cute stuff using the cartridges I have, but I seem to have lots of frustrations with it so that prevents me from pulling it out. I don't like that I have cover the glass plate with adhesive all the time, I have to 'home' it EVERY time I use it or else my die cuts go all wonky and I wish I could do dies larger than 4", their website is constantly changing names so I have to search the web every time I want to look something up, AND I'm perpetually confused by the new cartridges...are they just for fabric, or also for paper?

That not-so-glowing endorsement aside, when I quit whining about it, get it all ready to cut and actually USE it, then I'm usually happy with the results. This cute little boat was cut using the Big Kids cartridge, the sun was a die from MFT, and the 'waves' are actually a PTI heart border die that uses the bottom leftover piece that is NOT part of the heart.

Multiples!

Sometimes for two babies you need a bigger canvas! I strayed away (not too far though...) from my usual A2 sized card this time around, and used a 5.25" square card base to showcase these twin girl onesies. This card has already gone off in the mail to friends who celebrated their new arrivals recently. How busy that household must be these days!!

Bokeh love

I'm not a gal who could be described as trendy, but I sure do love most of the trends that appear in crafty products. Camera trend? Love it. Feathers? Love em'.  Ikat patterns? Adore. Now here comes the bokeh trend/effect...LOVE IT. Bokeh is 'the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light' so says most photography websites. Many companies out there have started to include this 'pattern' in their paper designs...yay!! I'll admit it was the reason I bought the new Maggie Holmes 6x6 pad from Crate Paper. Soooo much loveliness in that paper collection!! :) Even better was getting it at my lovely LSS The Paper Pickle!

Here I kept my card simple using the bokeh background, paired with a gradient stamped sentiment. After that I cut a few paper pieces into a flag end and added some staples to finish it off!

Supplies:
Stamps: (Sentiment Signs) Papertrey Ink
Ink: (Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores) Papertrey Ink
Cardstock: (Soft Stone) Papertrey Ink
Patterned Paper: (Maggie Holmes 6x6 collection) Crate Paper
Other: (staples) misc.

Sweet stuff

I couldn't put down Cardabilities' sketch #71 this weekend and used it for another creation! This one uses super sweet papers and a felt sticker from My Mind's Eye My Girl collection. I love everything about this cute, colorful, girly collection. It's PERFECT for kid birthday cards, and so much more!

On a happy family note, March Break is OVER. :) One kid back to school, the other happily back to her routine of playing with her brother's toys while he's at school...shhhh, don't tell! We had a wonderful break filled with bowling, board games, sleepovers in the living room, a reptile exhibit, Lego club at the local library, and in general- family time!

Stamps: ('sweet' from With All My Heart) Papertrey Ink
Ink: (Tuxedo Black) Tsukineko
Paper: (My Girl 6x6 collection) My Mind's Eye

Cardabilities sketch #71

I'm so excited for my first post as a Cardabilities Design Team member! On the 15th and 30th of the month you can check out the new sketch that comes up and play along by linking up your new creation!  I LOVE the creativity that Cardabilities sketches offer.

You will notice a lot of the design team and those linking up their cards have a gorgeous, scrappy look to their cards...well that intimidates this clean, simple and graphic girl! So I promise to give you my very best effort in the classy and elegant style that Cardabilities is known for.

You can see from the original sketch that I've definitely kept the same elements on my card, but added a few things as well. Fun fact- the sparkly and metal brad, and the MME stickers are from a prize pack I won from Paper Crafts magazine January gallery winner- lucky me!! Thanks for checking out my first post with this fun sketch team, and I'm excited to have you back again on the 30th...and maybe a few times in between right? :)

Warm Winter Birthday Wishes

Since it is almost spring I figured it was time to show one last wintery themed card for the season! Icy shades of purples and blues and embossed silver snowflakes on a crisp white background make for a pretty birthday card for someone who celebrates their happy day in the midst of winter.

Now let's put winter behind us and celebrate the warmth of spring (it's ALMOST HERE!!!). Have a great day everyone!

Supplies:
Stamps: (sentiment and snowflakes from In The Meadow; Watercolor Wonder) Papertrey Ink
Ink: (Royal Velvet, Blueberry Sky, Spring Rain, Plum Pudding, Lavender Moon, Winter Wisteria) Papertrey Ink; (Versamark) Tsukineko; (Shine color mist) Studio Calico

With Deepest Sympathy

I'm making an effort to use up every scrap of a few paper collections I have left over. The goal is to use it all up and then have room on the shelf for new ones. :) :)  Good thinking, right?
The Miss Caroline collections from My Mind's Eye are just so pretty and feminine that they work perfectly on this soft and sweet sympathy card. I'm down to the bare bones of this paper collection so all those teeny, tiny pieces are coming in handy for small die cuts, frames and accents!

Supplies:
Stamps: (sympathy) unknown
Ink: (Charcoal) Hero Arts
Paper: (Miss Caroline "Howdy Doody" collection) My Mind's Eye
Accent: (button) Papertrey Ink; (gem) Prima
Dies: (butterfly, frames) Papertrey Ink; (circle) Spellbinders

Bright and bold

I've put away all the Christmas supplies finally, Valentine's Day stamps are tucked away until next year, and my desk is now happily cluttered full of Spring colours and stamps. How lovely. :)

The card shown here actually uses the last of a Christmas card kit I bought for my holiday cards.  Such a cute polka dot background couldn't possibly be just for Christmas cards... Besides, who says a 'thinking of you' card has to be serene and pretty? They can be fun and bright too!

Supplies:
Cardstock: (white, Smokey Shadow) Papertrey Ink
Accents: (gems) Basic Grey
Fibers: (ribbon) misc.
Dies: (Thinking of You) Simon Says Stamp
Other: (card base) DCWV
